Description |
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain the efficient operation of the Cancer Program, including all aspects of the Cancer Registry, Cancer Committee and Cancer Conference. Abstracts new patient summary for each new Intake patient appointment. Communicates to Intake regarding missing records and completion status of new patient oncology note. Acts as back-up to Cancer Registry Abstractor for case abstracting, case finding, incident reporting, follow up data entry. Attends meetings for tumor and breast board meetings and completes follow up data entry. Maintain efficient and quality cancer registry database for continuation of accreditation standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Ensure that patient follow-up rates are at least 95%. Reports data to the Arizona Central State Cancer Registry EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE - Certified Tumor Registrar, or eligible
- Must have experience in Cancer Registry - Minimum 1 year
- Prefer a professional certification in Tumor Registry or must be credentialed within 3 years of employment
- Previous experience in Hospital abstracting, including knowledge of submission to AZ State Registry
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- College Degree or Associate Degree in Health Information Management
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically in Word and Excel
- Knowledge of Excel Tables and Databases
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook
- Knowledge of ICDO and ICD9 coding required
- General office and computer skills and typing required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Knowledge in Cancer Databases required (i.e. Metriq, IMPAC, Rocky Mountain, ERS, CNEX)
- Experience with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
- Oncology work experience a plus
- Familiar with content and format of an electronic health record system for inpatient and/or outpatient records
- Within 30 days, able to log on and navigate within WRMC EHR (Eclipsys SunRise Clinical Manager/SCM), and any other HIM computerized software systems as necessary
- Must demonstrate a professional and courteous manner, including telephone and email etiquette
- Upholds the privacy, confidentiality and security of protected health information internal and external to the work environment for written, verbal and/or electronic communication
- Know and strive to maintain departmental Key Performance Indicators applicable to this individual's job duties as well as the Department
- Demonstrates knowledge and accountability for the American Health Information Management Association's Ethics statement
- Must be detail oriented and organized
