Registered Dietitians (RD) are a valuable component of Cancer Treatment Centers of America's (CTCA) integrative clinical care team. Dietitians at CTCA offer an individualized nutrition approach to support patients during and after their cancer therapies. Patients are scheduled to see their RD with every treatment visit to ensure a proactive nutrition approach.
RD's are responsible for assessing patients' nutritional status and intervening with appropriate medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and/or education to improve, maintain, or optimize nutritional status. Nutrition therapy may involve intravenous (parenteral nutrition) or tube feeding (enteral nutrition). Dietitians provide nutrition therapy to support conventional cancer treatments to help optimize immune function, improve strength, increase energy, preserve lean body cell mass, rebuild body tissue, decrease risk of infection, and more. This position requires a high level of patient centricity, team work, flexibility, and compassion.
