Job Description:

Job Summary/Purpose:

Plan, organize, control, direct, and mentor the stakeholders of the Health Information Management Department who perform clerical functions, health record analysis, release of information, and scanning for both the inpatient and outpatient population.  Analyze and report Key Performance Indicators.  Lead projects that pertain to HIM functions.  Conduct education to stakeholders and providers.  Communicate corporate and department policies to stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and mentor stakeholders to provide exceptional patient care by ensuring that appropriate processes, training, and resources are implemented. Serves as the key contact and liaison for HIM issues at the site, addresses concerns, and coordinates with others to resolve issues, streamline processes, and utilize staff efficiently. Identifies and implements changes regarding policy, productivity and quality measures, and assures the staff performance improvements related to work-flow efficiencies and operations. Works with department staff to forecast department needs and staff workload appropriately; prioritizes work flows to meet patient care needs.
  • Provide leadership and direction for department in maintaining the balance between quality and productivity, Key Performance Indicators and Lean Thinking Initiatives, track, monitor and trend and present their progress to the department and administration to support the overall mission and goals of the organization.
  • Monitor medical record deficiency and delinquency rates, provide statistical information and reports to committees, administration and medical staff office.Work with physician and physician extenders to resolve record delinquencies.
  • Monitor departmental and hospital compliance with Federal Regulation, Joint Commission, CMS, State of Arizona law, American College of Surgeons, and other regulatory agencies requirements as they relate to the presence, accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and retention of medical records. Assists to assure the hospital continually meets regulatory requirements and accrediting standards relating to HIM and remains aware of new requirements and Best Practices in the HIM field.Serves as spokesperson for HIM issues during hospital regulatory and accrediting surveys and provides data and information to surveyors upon request.
  • Participate in meetings and committees for corporate, site, department and section operational decisions. Provide leadership for Information Management Committee and Committees Participates in enterprise-wide committees and provides inputin the development of policies and procedures related to HIM.Works collaboratively with Clinical Informatics, the Quality Department, Compliance, and all other departments to assure that health records are complete, pertinent, timely, and accurate. Serves on enterprise committees, work groups, client practice groups; provides in-depth expertise in medical documentation best practices, process improvement, problem resolution and regulatory agency and institutional standards and requirements.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to maintain the rapport with stakeholders and provide education on a routine basis. Serves as point of contact for providers to ensure best practices in medical documentation are met.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Health Information Management or Health Information Management or Health Care Administration is required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in acute and ambulatory HIM Department operations is required.
  • Management or Supervisor experience is preferred.
  • Currently credentialed as a Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator is required.
